A Tastier Burger Than the Rest

Trying to compress it into a bite size height was to say the least messy, but the flavour… that was a real burger. Feeling a little braver to venture away from Texas, I recently tried the Chefs Selection burger.

This burger moves away from the traditional burger toppings coming on a bed of red cabbage, rocket topped with duck and sunny side egg.

The common thread with meals at the eatery is the fact that the sauces and vegetables cut through the protein, leaving a fresh feel to the mouth.

Each burger on the menu seems to have an ingredient that cuts through the dense flavour of the protein feeling, seemingly a signature by the chef. The French Connection burger comes with the beef patty, caramelised onion, rocket and blue Cheese.

With such bold flavours, there is always the risk of overpowering the taste buds, a balance which Asaf Hamo, executive chef for Urban Gourmet Burgers, explains comes from measuring each ingredient carefully.

More than a dollop of blue cheese and all other flavours are rendered obsolete.

Pineapple

According to Chef Hamo, the man behind the menu, each burger combination is as a result testing what works well with what.  The Caribbean burger, for example, combines tropical flavours with a beef patty and pineapple.

The menu at the eatery has diverse options from a Texas burger, French Connection, Caribbean, the Big Hulk, Asian, Schnitzel and chilli just to name a few of the  meat options while vegetarians have the veggie and falafel-a homage by the chef to his roots—options.

Mushrooms

For the adventurous, the special menu has burgers like the shawarma, Italiano and pizza patty among others.

For the sides, the chicken wings are good option and the Urban salad, made of a variety of peppers, carrots and mushrooms, offers a crunchy fresh alternative to fries or onion rings.
