Baiskeli Adventures is this Sunday hosting a bike-to-barbecue trip to Olepolos, on Magadi Road in Kajiado County.
The event involves cycling to a particular destination with the group meeting up with fellow riders for some nyama choma.
Bike tours are gaining popularity with city residents as more enthusiasts seek adventure and work-out exercises outside the gym.
The challenging cycle trails to Olepolos are also bound to give riders a lot of time to clear the mind.
Rakesh Young, the founder of the Baiskeli Adventures, said the cycling trip was open to both professional cyclists and intermediate riders.
The 25-kilometre ride down the Kona Baridi descent to the “nyama choma paradise” he says is a cycling activity that is increasingly attracting more cyclists compared to other tours they organise within the city. The group cycles one way to the venue and comes back on a bus that also carries their bikes.
Buses
“I guess the promise of nyama choma is a good enough motivation for people. We have already filled up one of the buses that will bring the riders back and will hopefully fill the second one by this Saturday,” he said.
The buses are normally on standby accompanying the riders as they cycle to relieve those whose bikes breakdown or those who are unable to complete the distance.
The cycling group rides along with trained mechanics to fix bicycles and repair punctures whenever they occur.
Riders are also provided with water and light snacks as they cycle along after paying Sh2,800 per person. This amount is inclusive of return transport and energetic riders can, for an extra fee, go for a swim later at the nyama venue.
Venues
While a well- serviced mountain bike with front shocks is a requirement, Rakesh says Baiskeli Adventures can make prior arrangements for those who want to hire one at an additional cost of Sh1500.
Wearing padded shorts and gloves will help prevent your backside and hands from the discomfort of blisters due to the friction as one rides.
The cycling group that was started in April last year has organised several events within the city and the outskirt areas like Kereita Forest in Lari, Kiambu County, Paradise Lost in Kiambu, Swara Plains in Machakos County.
