Robby Collins: Come As You Are Tour Nairobi
On August 2nd and 3rd, Emmy-nominated writer and feature film actor Robby Collins will be back in Nairobi for a two-night show, courtesy of Nairobi Laugh Club.
Trevor Noah, a South African comedian, is well-known for his success with The Daily Show. He is easily one of the most recognisable comedians from Africa.
However, the African stand-up scene is rich with other talented comedians.
One of them, a South African stand-up comedian who in my opinion, is on par with Trevor, is the subject of today’s article.
Physically, he could be described as what you’d get if Jeremy Clarkson (Top Gear, Grand Tour host) were Trevor’s brother.
Robby Collins
From the screen to the stage, Robby Collins is what you would consider an all-around entertainer.
He is not just a nation-touring comedian with his own one-man show but also an Emmy-nominated writer and feature film actor.
Robby has opened for Trevor Noah on all his one-man shows, from Day Walker (2010) to Nationwild (2014).
He has also toured and opened for Dave Chappelle during his South Africa tour.
He has also regularly appeared at events like Blacks Only, Kings and Queens of Comedy, and Comedy Central Live at Parkers.
In 2013, Robby debuted his one-man show, That Bushman’s Crazy, which won the Standard Bank Ovation Award at the Grahamstown National Arts Festival in 2014.
Awards:
Grahamstown National Arts Festival 2014: Standard Bank Ovation Award for "That Bushman’s Crazy"
Nominated for Breakthrough Comic of the Year: 2011, 2012, 2017
Nominated for Comic of the Year: 2018
Comic Choice Awards: Breakthrough Act of the Year: 2011, 2012
Stand-Up
Having been in the game for more than 15 years, Robby Collins is a comedian whose material draws on real life.
He comes across as being at ease on stage and has a very believable stage presence, endearing himself to audiences with his wit and comedic timing.
He recently performed in Kenya during the Nairobi International Comedy Festival 2024, held from April 17th to 21st.

Having watched his previous shows, I believe that Robby Collins is a stand-up comedian we should all see.
He may not be underrated, but his confidence in delivery and wit in setting up his material is something we all need to experience, especially given his relatable sets.
Apart from Robby, the show will be an all-stand-up affair. Doug Mutai, one of the most versatile stand-up comedians in the country, will host the event.
His infectious energy will undoubtedly add value to the event.
The show will also feature Mammito Eunice, an interesting personality who has dominated social media with her comedic skits, TV and stand-up, effortlessly flourishing in all of them.
Conclusion
When it comes to stand-up comedy, Dave Chappelle is the GOAT [greatest of all time], and Trevor Noah is one of the best exports from Africa.
While these artistes are some of the most prominent, there are many others who are equally talented.
As the comedy culture grows, it’s important for us to broaden our scope and appreciate the other talents out there.
