Over 100 motor vehicles lying idle at Central and Kabete police stations in Nairobi will go under the auctioneer’s hammer at the end of the month in an effort geared towards disposing of piled up unclaimed assets.
Regent Auctioneers in a notice gave motor vehicle owners 30 days from September 28 to collect their abandoned assets, failing which the items will be put up for sale.
The auctioneer has also put owners of tens of abandoned motorcycles on notice too.
“ … owners of motor vehicles and motorcycles, which are lying idle and unclaimed within the Central Police Station and Kabete Police Station yards, to collect the said motor vehicles and motorcycles at the said yards (Central Police Station and Kabete Police Station) within thirty days from the date of publication of this notice,” said Regent in a gazette notice.
“Failure to which Regent Auctioneers Nairobi shall proceed to dispose off the said motor vehicles and motorcycles by way of public auction on behalf of Central Police Station and Kabete Police Station if they remain uncollected/unclaimed after the given period of thirty days.” The impounded vehicles are said to be a safety hazard.
Most of those occupying the yards are write-offs following accidents that are yet to be collected by the owners and insurance companies.
Others were impounded due to lack of documents or for contravening traffic rules.
In June, Regent Auctioneers also auctioned 94 abandoned motor vehicles and motorcycles that had taken up most of the space at the Kiambu and Ong’ata Rongai police stations.
